We may be at the beginning of a dynasty.
When it comes to the annual Penn State football media survey, the fans have once again selected Blue White Illustrated as their most read Penn State media outlet for the second year in a row.
In its third year, the SSSWSPSFMS attempts to learn more about Penn Staters and their reading and listening habits – all in a very unscientific fashion. (A sincere thank you to everyone who took the time to fill out the survey this year.)
We also learned that 27 percent of you who used to subscribe to The Athletic have now dropped your subscription in the wake of the outlet’s decision to no longer provide dedicated coverage. Plus, we saw Landon Tengwall’s Behind The Wall podcast shoot up the rankings as he continues to grow in the Penn State podcasting space.
And again, this was filled out by you – our readers and watchers and listeners. This survey is not the end-all-be-all but does give us some form of a glimpse into what you’re reading and listening to.
Here are this year’s results.
TV
Favorite Network To Watch A Penn State Game
- NBC – 44%
- CBS – 35%
- BTN – 12%
- Fox – 10%
Fox and BTN swapped places this year. Last year 20 percent said Fox was their favorite place but it’s clear the Big Noon impact is turning viewers off ahead of the 2025.
Podcast
81 percent of those who responded said they listen to Penn State podcasts.
Top 5
- Blue White Illustrated
- Behind The Wall With Landon Tengwall
- Lions247
- Stuff Somers Says With Steve
- The Nittany Dispatch
(Again, it’s not like we hired Quinnipiac to conduct this survey. We asked our own listeners and readers. But thanks for voting for us. It means a lot.)
Publications
One of the biggest pieces of news this offseason in the Penn State sports media world was that Audrey Snyder announced she would not be returning to The Athletic as the company decided not to provide dedicated coverage to Penn State this season. With that, we asked if you’ve canceled your subscription because of that. 27 percent of those who subscribe now no longer subscribe.
However, 61 percent of those who took the survey say they still pay for coverage from places like On3 (Blue White Illustrated), Lions247 and The Athletic.
As for general consumption, as mentioned earlier, the top spot once again belongs to Blue White Illustrated crew.

Grade For The Beat
You gave the beat higher marks this year. “A” grades increased from 28 percent to 41 percent this year. “B” grades still took the top spot at 43 percent.
- A – 41%
- B – 43%
- C – 9%
Feedback For The Beat
- James Franklin is not your friend. He doesn’t care or think about you other than the few minutes he tolerates you per week. Do not cover him like he is.
- This is nobody here’s fault but it’s certifiably insane that The Athletic let Audrey go. What an incredibly dumb decision. I kept my subscription because I like their Mets coverage, but if it wasn’t for that I would’ve dropped that subscription.
- Tougher questions for CJF — like when he wants to argue with fans.
- We need a new Dave Jones truth teller and those who cover the Big Ten more holistically.
Here are last year’s results as well.
