An outmatched opponent, a rainy day and … a scavenger hunt.
Look, everyone knows who’s going to win Saturday’s game at Beaver Stadium, and everyone knows it’s not going to be a nail-biting contest.
Penn State fans are a committed and loyal bunch, though, and, unlike me, they are not fair-weather fans. Flawed FIU? No worries, still showing up. Not ideal weather, who cares? It’s the Blue and White at home! Who would miss that?
All those fans (or a big majority of them) have invested and will make the trip for the noon game and all that goes with it no matter what. Kudos.
Still, if you go, you’ll probably need to pass the time at some point, because the on-field action is not going to be that compelling.
Before the game gets out of hand, or once it does, here are some things to look for — making this a photo scavenger hunt with answers to steve@stuffsomerssay.com, and the winning entrant will get bragging rights, some sort of one-of-a-kind prize and some Stuff.
Here are 10 things to try to find Saturday.
- The Blue Band’s march down Curtin Road, or entry into the stadium.
- A West Shore Home ad NOT on the field itself.
- The Nittany Lion mascot.
- An out-of-town score on the ribbon boards.
- The student section, either high on the east side or high on the west side.
- The on-field countdown clock held by the Red Hat’s friend.
- A food item that costs less than $10.
- An ad for a non-alcoholic beverage.
- A set of temporary stairs.
- Someone not dressed for the weather.
Go ahead, make a game of it. It might be the most entertaining part of the day.
